Frequently Asked Questions

Employers and employees each contribute 5% of the employee’s relevant income, subject to minimum and maximum income levels. For monthly paid employees, the maximum mandatory contribution is $1,500 each per month.

Your employer’s contributions are calculated from your first day of employment. Your own contributions start after the first 30 days of employment.

For the first 30 days of employment, no employee contributions are deducted from your pay, but your employer still contributes. If you are paid monthly or more often, the holiday also covers any incomplete wage period right after the 30 days.

Your employer must make the first contribution on or before the next contribution day after the calendar month in which your 60th day of employment falls. The contribution day is generally the 10th of each month.

The minimum and maximum income levels are worked out for each wage period, using a daily minimum of $280 and a daily maximum of $1,000. For example, a weekly paid employee has a minimum of $1,960 and a maximum of $7,000.
